Ade Hall & Paul Chisnell
Nel
and Gloria Monday of course

Ar Faoued were brilliant and they are no more. But their supporters will know that the heart of the four piece band was always Ade and Paul, in fact Ar Faoued was originally just the two of them.

So come along to the Grand O’l Bowling Club for a reminder of that energy, musicianship and humour. It will be great.

We will also have a new singer for us, nel. We think she’s lovely and we know you’ll give her a warm welcome.

And of course Gloria Monday, your very own stripped down Orchestra of Truth, will be opening proceedings and acting as hosts.

Tickets £4 in advance (£5 on the night if there are any left)

Michelle Laverick
Fawn Music
and Gloria Monday of course

Michelle Laverick has played for us several times since we started these events but she’s always been modestly in the support spot. However she has been doing some brilliant work recording her music and building up her following, recently she has played as concert support to some very big names including Tom Robinson and she has a brand new EP, Selkie Child, out this month. So it’s definitely past time to have her at the top of our bill.

Selkie Child has been getting lots of great reviews so here’s a sample:
Selkie Child, a tour de force. Hauntingly beautiful tracks, shape-shifting imagery, soulful and memorable. Highly recommend.

We’ve invited Fawn Music to play on Michelle’s particular recommendation. originally from the Hebrides where she grew up singing in Gaelic, she sings folk, classical and original songs with an emotional and Celtic twist.

And of course Gloria Monday, your very own stripped down Orchestra of Truth, will be opening proceedings and acting as hosts.

On the Back Porch
Mike Richards
and Gloria Monday of course

We are back for a new season and it’s a real pleasure to start with two lovely people and long time supprters and contributors at these events. Bob Delbridge and Issy Howie sum up what’s great about old time American music with beautiful harmonies, a warm presence and deep understanding of their art.

Issy is also a member of the Outlaw Sisters, who played for us a while back and are in demand for festival concerts and singing workshops. Bob is hailed as the reincarnation of Hank Williams in his role as frontman of Britain’s leading Honkytonk band, The Bapchilds

Mike Richards is another old friend who has done a huge amount to support and encourage live music in Sheffield, plus being a really great interpreter of songs. For a long time he was part of the greatly loved Americana group, Dogwood Rose, but it’s always a treat to hear him stepping out on his own account.

And of course Gloria Monday, your very own stripped down Orchestra of Truth, will be opening proceedings and acting as hosts.

Lost Kind Words + Sharpish
and Gloria Monday of course

Two very welcome returning groups this month: Lost Kind Words have given us some great performances in previous years so we are looking forward to another classic this time. Jo and Q describe themselves as playing ‘Dark Country’ and you can look forward to having your attention held by a beautiful vocal partnership with some intense arrangements. Always a treat.

Sharpish is a Sheffield Family band who honed their musical partnership through long travels together while the younger members were growing up. Patri, Jim, Sol and Maya are masters of instrumental arrangement, playing folk tunes from across Europe. What marks them out is their skill at taking dance music beyond the repetition of tunes and themes into intricate exchanges between the individualinstruments.

And of course Gloria Monday, your very own stripped down Orchestra of Truth, will be opening proceedings and acting as hosts.

Tickets £4 in advance (more expensive on the night if there are any left)

Kate Green & Raymond Greenoaken
The Sparkle Sistaz
and Gloria Monday of course

Kate Green is a great interpreter of songs and recently she has become more recognised as a songwriter too. Always a very welcome guest and loved by our audience. Kate will be accompanied by her self-effacing sidekick, Raymond, a really excellent musician and musicologist and a mean CD salesman in his charmingly oblique way.

We are thilled to welcome The Sparkle Sistaz as our second guests. Not only are they lovely performers but they represent our charity partners, Under the Stars. It’s a unique chance to see at first hand what can be achieved by determined people supported by a great local charity.

And of course Gloria Monday, your very own stripped down Orchestra of Truth, will be opening proceedings and acting as hosts.

The Outlaw Sisters + Cold Bones
and Gloria Monday of course

Our Headline guests this month are local musicians who are very rarely seen in Sheffield so it’s a proper reunion. The Outlaw Sisters have not been seen much at all in their home city since Rose Ardron moved away from Sheffield although they have been busy with festivals and workshops in other parts of the country.

We have seen Issy Howie performing for us more than once with Bob Delbridge in ‘On the Back Porch’ bOur Headline guests this month are local musicians who are very rarely seen in Sheffield so it’s a proper reunion. The Outlaw Sisters have not been seen much at all in their home city since Rose Ardron moved away from Sheffield although they have been busy with festivals and workshops in other parts of the country.ut this month we have Issy, Rose and Jane Foggin back together on stage with their beautiful arrangements of old time music. Expect the harmonies to be delicious, the performances to be sensitive and the atmosphere to be delightful.

Sheffield songwriter Cold Bones will be playing for us for the first time. He performs original songs, often reflecting or evolving from true experience, an artist keenly aware of his local roots while being inspired by American greats such as Mississippi John Hurt, Frank Stokes and Jackson C Frank.

Treebeard + Oranjabanj
and Gloria Monday of course

Featuring Treebeard, Sheffield’s hugely loved, vastly experienced, most eccentric folk band, led by the irrepressible and indefatigable Chris MacMahon. Here are a few reviews:
The Led Zeppelin of folk
The best Celtic folk-rock band this side of Dublin
Descendants of Gandalf, bring a hobbit

We will also have the world premiere of Oranjabanj, a duo we met playing at the friendly Forest Open Mic. This is the first time they have played a full set anywhere and we are sure you will love them. Orange has a beautiful voice, whether she is singing her own compositions or classic songs, Dan underpins her on the banjo and we are really looking forward to seeing them shine for you.

And of course Gloria Monday, your very own stripped down Orchestra of Truth, will be opening proceedings and acting as hosts. If you liked Chris and Karen as Break a Leg this is them coming back with a bit more attitude and some new songs.
